In many regards, Fairfield is exceptional by any standards, and completely unique in Iowa.

Fairfield’s mayor, Ed Malloy, was named by MSN.com to a list of 14 mayors nationwide who are noted as “green“ mayors.  Malloy describes the city’s agenda for sustainability as aggressive and includes a Green Strategic Plan covering everything from conservation, local farms, local food, alternative transportation and bike paths and trails. The hope, according to Malloy, is that Fairfield will become a model community and a "virtual template" for small cities interested in creating a sustainable city environment.

Fairfield is also known as the home for Transcendental Meditation in the United States.

It's safe to say the SLC wouldn't be flourishing if it wasn't for the constant, generous support of this great town.
